Viva Camino JP — User Manual

1. About the app

Viva Camino JP is a PWA for planning your Camino, viewing maps and lodging, chatting on the board, and keeping a diary. Open viva-camino.com, log in, and use the five main tabs (Home, Quest, Route, Guild, Journal).

Set the UI language under Guild → Profile (Japanese / English).

2. Field Guide (header — “迷える旅人” / Field Guide)

Tap Field Guide at the bottom-right of the header (on the banner image when RPG theme is on). It opens a site map with short hints for each screen.

Current layout (May 2026):

• Quest Log (Home) — today's plan, remaining km, ETA
• Area Map (Route) — map, live location, offline save
• Quests — Route Chart / Inn / Medals
• Guild Hall — Bulletin / Town Crier / Profile (comrades, friends, QR)
• Journal — Adventure Log (diary & ledger) / Memo Pad / Bag

• Adventure Log — diary create/edit; ledger below write button
• Memo Pad — private notes (device only), Journal tab
• Bag — your gear list, Journal tab
• Diary ledger — two wallets, daily totals; expenses never shared with friends
• Medals — achievement badges, Quest tab
• Town Crier — official news and links, Guild tab
• Trailblazers — pilgrim links inside Guild → Town Crier

3. Journal — diary, memo & gear

• Journal tab → Adventure Log → Write diary entry
• Memo Pad sub-tab — private notes with title and body (saved on this device only)
• Bag sub-tab — pack list with weight totals; see also Guild → Board → Everyone's Gear
• Title, mood, body, then Add photos (up to 2), then the Today’s ledger block
• Open an entry from the list → Edit or Delete (your entries only)
• Ledger details: § Diary ledger
• Sharing with friends: § Friends & diary (Guild → Profile; expenses stay private)

4. Diary ledger (two wallets · yen estimate)

Record that day’s spending inside a diary entry. Split costs across two wallets (e.g. cash and card). Amounts are stored in euros (€). Totals appear per wallet and combined.

Location: Journal → Adventure Log. Below Write diary entry you’ll find Daily expense summary.

Write or edit expenses

1. Journal → Adventure Log → Write diary entry
2. Fill title, mood, and body
3. Add photos (up to 2) — above the ledger block
4. In Today’s ledger, tap Add expense → item label and amount (as EUR)
5. Pick wallet 1 / wallet 2 via tabs or the row dropdown
6. Subtotals per wallet and Total (both) show at the bottom of the block
7. After save, the diary list shows the day’s total (€ and approximate ¥ if a rate is set)
8. To fix mistakes: open your entry → Edit

Ledger settings (inside Daily expense summary)

Under Ledger settings (saved on this device; kept after you log in again):

• Wallet 1 / Wallet 2 names — leave blank for defaults “Wallet A” / “Wallet B” (e.g. “Cash”, “Card”)
• 1 euro = (　) yen — your manual rate. Once saved, approximate yen stays on ledger totals, the daily table, and the diary list until you clear the field

Daily expense summary table

• One row per calendar day that has expenses (newest first)
• Multiple diary entries on the same day are combined for that date
• Period total row at the bottom

Friends

Even when friends can read your diary text and photos, they never see the ledger or amounts. Only you see expenses in the list, detail view, and daily table.

5. Friends QR & diary sharing

Share diary text and photos with trail friends—not expenses. Open Guild → Profile and scroll below settings for Comrade locations, Friends & diary, and the signup QR.

See each other’s diaries

All three are required:

• Mutual friend registration (QR or email)
• You turn Share diary ON for them
• They turn Share diary ON for you

Then their entries appear in the list with “by nickname”.

6. Offline maps

You can save the visible map area to your device so the map keeps working when you are offline on the trail. Run this on Wi‑Fi before you leave.

1. Open the Route tab.
2. Pan and zoom so the stage you will walk is visible.
3. Tap 📦 Offline next to "Show full basic route".
4. Set min / max zoom (default 12–15) and tap Start download.
5. Done — the background map stays available even in airplane mode.

Recommended zoom while walking

Min / max zoom sets how detailed the saved tiles are (like the map +/− controls) for the area currently visible on the map below the panel. Higher numbers mean more detail and more tiles to download.

• 11 — very zoomed out; good for a rough day overview, coarse trail detail
• 12–13 — about 1–2 km of context; good min zoom for route and next town
• 14–15 — trail, lodgings, and junctions are clear; good max zoom while walking
• 16+ — very detailed but many more tiles; use for a small village area only

For walking, min 12 · max 15 (app defaults) is a practical balance. Lower the max to 14 for large downloads; use 15–16 only for stretches where you need fine detail.

Tiles you have already viewed are also cached automatically. Use the explicit download to make sure a stretch is fully stored. Please follow the OSM tile usage policy and download only what you need.

6. Spread the word

Viva Camino JP is open to everyone since May 2026.

• Use Share link on the homepage (viva-camino.com/go/)
• Post your experience in Camino Facebook groups or on X with the link
• Print a QR for albergue notice boards pointing to https://viva-camino.com/go/
• Register the site in Google Search Console and submit /sitemap.xml

Google login for all users: if OAuth consent is still in Testing, only listed test users can sign in. See docs/SUPABASE_SETUP.md §10 and the Japanese manual §13.

7. Troubleshooting

• No approximate yen — enter 1 euro = … yen under Daily expense summary and leave the field to save
• Fix expenses — open your diary → Edit
• Friend’s diary missing — mutual friends + both Share diary switches ON
• Friend sees my spending — they should not; only body/photos are shared. If you see a bug, use the feedback form on Guild → Town Crier
• Map is blank offline — save the area with 📦 Offline on Wi‑Fi first; uncached areas cannot be shown offline
